So India lost another cricket match

This really did not come as much of a surprise. We have allowed ourselves to turn our cricketers into near mythical figures, who are supposed to perform magic every time they are on the field....Yes, it is us to blame for having let it come to this.

The writing's pretty much on the wall for cricket in this country - observe the near empty stadiums for every match in which India was not participating. And with the performances of this team, it won't be long till the same happens to India matches. And that will be the best thing to happen to everyone connected to Indian cricket. The sheer lust for money has overshadowed everything about this fine game. What a pity...!

Now's the time to focus on other sports, they need the support we have given cricket for some many years. And smart marketers should realize that consumers are getting saturated with cricket, and are keen to check out some other sporting events.

My money is on football. A little financial and media support, and there is no reason why we cannot have successful football leagues here, and an improved national team.

There is tennis, which has steady following. There is F1, which just witnessed one of the closest title races this season, as did Moto GP. Golf is another sport where Indians are doing quite well.

All in all, I think this loss will be one of the best things to happen to Indian sport.
